International Adoptions

Please read our blog post about the status of our International Adoption program.

Adopting a child from a country outside the United States is known as International or Intercountry Adoption. More than 150 million children worldwide have lost one or both parents due to disease, poverty, war, abandonment or other causes. Many of these children are growing up without the love of a permanent family. Options for Families and Youth (OFY) is committed to helping these children have a better life in a caring, loving, permanent family.

OFY is a Hague-Accredited international adoption agency through the Council on Accreditation (COA) as authorized by the U.S. Department of State. The Hague Convention is an international treaty created to ensure that:  intercountry adoptions are in the best interests of children; and to prevent the abduction, exploitation, sale, or trafficking of children. In complying with Hague standards, OFY ensures that the individuals and groups we affiliate with in the U.S. and in other countries are ethical, reliable and committed to doing what is in the best interest of children.

OFY’s International Adoption Services at this time include our home study, post placement and post adoption services.

OFY has been completing adoption home studies and providing post placement services for a variety of Ohio adoptive families working to adopt internationally through organizations outside of Ohio for several years. We have been both an exempt and supervised provider of international agencies in Colorado, Oregon, Michigan, Texas, Arizona and several other states. We are open to developing cooperative agency agreements with any other Hague-Accredited adoption agency and helping families across Ohio complete home studies, post placement and post adoption requirements. See our Home Study Services page for additional information.
