The title above speaks for itself. The past two months have been extremely demanding in terms of staff time and effort. It’s been energy-draining but also a fruitful time. I’d like to take few sentences to single out a few prominent moments:
Kudos go out again to our longstanding partnership with Credit First National Association/Bridgestone America Trust Fund. This organization has provided donated funds to Options for Families and Youth annually for the past 16 years. Their contribution to OFY takes care of the many needs of children and families in our programs when we have exhausted traditional means to help those individuals out. Their generosity is overwhelming; their trust and confidence in what we do is encouraging; and we look forward to continuing our relationship in the future.
Next, I’d like to thank Pastors Dwight Seletzky and Marc Maddox at Christ The King Vineyard Church in North Olmsted for allowing us to place a display table in the main lobby for three consecutive weeks. They were welcoming, pleasant, servant-leaders and we found the members of their congregation hospitable and friendly. You never know what kind of connections you make when you interact with variety of people or when those will bear fruit.
Speaking of churches, my own home church, Grace Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Middleburg Heights has a group of mothers who contacted us in October. Carol Akins heads up Moms Uplifting Moms (MUMS) and presented some ideas for donations to OFY to those that attend their monthly group in November. Over 200 women gather together regularly and on December 10, 2015 I was the happy recipient of a variety of items that will go a long way to put smiles on the faces of the children that we serve. I’m hoping to visit them in January to give them a proper ‘thank you’ in person.
Finally, I was appreciative of the opportunity to tell a little bit of the OFY story to Dr. Cara Daily for her broadcast program called Wonderfully Made on radio AM 1220 ‘The Word’ airing on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm. A podcast of my October 20, 2015 interview is now available on wonderfullymade.life.
There’s more appreciation and thanks to come to a dedicated, loyal staff who want the best for the children of Cuyahoga County…but that’s for next time.
